To use forests in a more sustainable way, humans must make use of quick return woods such as some pines and bamboo. Woodland gardening techniques, reusing wood products and finding wood substitute. Three ways in which governments and individuals can reduce tropical deforestation are supporting Eco- forestry where only the minimal needed trees are cut, recycling papers to reduce the need to cut down trees and using alternative products to wood, such as bamboo, which is a quickly self- replenishing resource with multiple uses. Another thing is to help sustain tropical forests of the world must be united to discourage deforestation and degradation. The effort of slow population growth, decrease/ eliminate world poverty and provide environmentally supportive government that subsidies and reduce the debts owed by the developing countries which place a monetary value on ecological services provided by tropical forests.

Electronic Arts and the Global Video Game Industry Demographic trends   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Gaming has become an important part of growing up for people who were born in the last 25 years. Cyber education Essay

Examinations are a means of measuring the students’ learning in school and their capacity for further education. In this regard, the manner of teaching and the students’ learning methods are important. A student, while in primary and secondary schools, greatly relies on the teachers for knowledge, except for a few who do personal researches to further their understanding. More often than not, a student accepts what the teachers offer in school. With this set up, a student has to be abreast and attentive with classroom discussion. He should take down notes and submit in a timely manner the projects and assignments given in school. Participation in classroom discussion and school activities must be encouraged. Interest in school must be inculcated in the mind of every student to support the knowledge and understanding obtained from the classroom. This is to enable the student to have a more enjoyable stay in school. The more enjoyable the learning process is, the more retention of knowledge there. Cyber education is not at all detestable. Students’ learning is more enhanced if the mode of teaching is something which interests him. Cyber education is one that interests me and I think, is equally true with others. Where there is not much interaction with the teachers, the concept that it is more enjoyable makes the information stick into our minds. However, the concern of many that this might lead to no interaction at all with teachers, thus prevents the control of teachers on the students disregarding their personal differences and characteristics, should not be disregarded. Their concern is equally important. Thus, it is humbly proposed that learning be not limited to the traditional type of teaching, but must be combined with cyber school on some selected subjects suitable to it. A student must be exposed to both the traditional type of teaching and cyber school. It is of utmost importance that he is able to retain the information and apply what have been learned in school.

Are Millennials Different From Otner Generations - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 4 Words: 1123 Downloads: 6 Date added: 2019/08/16 Category Sociology Essay Level High school Tags: Millennials Essay Did you like this example?   Fads, like swallowing live goldfish as a party trick and surfing on the hood of moving vehicles, may be on the list of college student contributions to America, but it cannot be denied that they have also contributed to the most important parts of modern history books such as the initiation of The Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the final decision of Brown vs Board of Education. College students are renowned for their activism and protests: often being the cornerstone for large social movements. Even so, it is still not unusual for older generations to degrade the up-and-coming one. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Are Millennials Different From Otner Generations?" essay for you Create order People tend to shy away and fight against change especially when it is their descendants that are at the fore front. Fear and discomfort are often the rivals of progress, but elder generations often forget where they were twenty, thirty, even forty years ago when they also push against these pressures for social reformations. The Millennials are hardly different from any other generation of young adults fighting their way through the barriers of society that often attempt to keep youngsters in check. Furthermore, society must stop ignoring the political and social activism that college students preach, they must remove the unnecessary boundaries placed by censorship and the increasing abasement of the youth must be reduced, otherwise, society will lose their front line in the war for progression. For the newest spoiled generation of college students, the statistics show that they are more than willing to fight unreasonable odds to reach their goals such as racism, crime and violence, and debt. When students choose seats in class, they do not pick the one where they can hear the teacher, or the one in the back so they can relax. Students choose the one closes to an exit in case of a shooter like Chris Harper-Mercer, a shooter at a community college in Roseburg, Oregon, Adam Lanza of the Sandy Hook shooting. According to a report released by the US Department of Justice in 2014, 17 percent of college students had experienced some form of violence or harassment in the previous year. (Barnhardt) According to the director of the Center for Global Studies, Sophia A. McClennen, of Pennsylvania State University, of all college students, one third are the first of their families to attend a school for higher education, 43% are of color, 26% are undergraduates with dependent children, and of every five female students one will be sexually assaulted in college. Another study revealed that 79% of teachers are white (Douglas). To a student, these statistics are daily struggles. These issues are not the results of avid complaining, coddling of helicopter parents, or extreme sensitivities -these are real dangers the cause negative impacts on our students reaching towards higher education.   Many authorities have claimed that tough love is the solution to the struggles of students who are complaining (also recognized as students who are protesting.) This is not the solution. The prevalence of depression and anxiety symptoms among students is increasing globally [1-7].(Tran)   Suicide, the most severe consequence of mental disorders, is the second highest cause of death among college students (behind car accidents), claiming the lives of more than 1,000 students a year. as mentioned in the article College Campus Safety. While it is true that students should not be babied, we must not impose more stress upon the students. This increase in mental illnesses applies to more than just anxiety and depression and cannot be ignored. Students are reaching points in their mental states of such extremities that they are unable to function normally. The approach to countering this growing issue would simply be to listen. Consider the young persons point of view and refrain from ber ating them. While it is simply important to recognize students as actual human beings facing common struggles that have important things to say, we must acknowledge the educational benefits of allowing students to participate freely in political topics and to speak their minds without disdain from their elders. Research has shown that students engaged in activism reap educational benefits such as developing an inclination to continue their political participation well into mid-life and acquiring a greater sense of social responsibility and identity consciousness. (Barnhardt)   In a society where censorship has become a requirement for any controversial issue, it is difficult to express and expand upon unpopular opinions. In an email written by a faculty member at Yale in 2015, it was said that censorship of Halloween costumes was entirely outlandish and offensive to the students of the community who want to enjoy their holiday (Christakis). This became a racial epidemic where students became extremely tense and divided. It is true that a hostile learning environment caused by offensive opinion could be avoided by the censorship but, this could also prevent students from learning how to handle themselves when they are offended and discourage students from standing up for their beliefs when they do not coincide with the popular opinion. The censorship remained. Three years later students are being told that they are the most sensitive and coddled generation of college students. Their claims are being called lame and immature by older generations who claim that they were tougher and, ultimately, better than the youths they raised. As of 2018, a report by Gallup on the University of Nebraska revealed:   Twenty-eight percent of students said they did not feel comfortable expressing their political views in conversations with their professors, and 31 percent said they feel uncomfortable sharing unpopular ideas in class. In general, 35 percent said they feared offending people on campus by speaking their minds. Some professors shared that anxiety; 25 percent of faculty members said they were uncomfortable encouraging discussions of unpopular ideas, and 36 percent said they worried about causing offense by speaking freely. (Kolowich)   As a community, we must reevaluate censorship in our school. Our millennials have been burdened with a barrier that prevents them from acknowledging reality and the effects are spiraling out into communities causing a wide spread state of ignorance. Topics such as racism, sex, gender preference, political standing, terrorism, etc Should never be removed from a learning environment for potential offense and bias. Students must grow up with an open mind; therefore, removing these topics from school will render young people weak and naive. If a young person is raised in a society where sex is never discussed, then they would be left vulnerable to misleading rumors that could potentially change their life and that of others. If a young person is raised without mention of racism, they will be complete unsympathetic to marches in the name of equality. If a young person is denied proper education that could arm them with the most powerful weapon of knowledge, then they would be rendered use less to society and completely dependent upon others

Aileen Wuornos - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 5 Words: 1404 Downloads: 1 Date added: 2019/06/26 Category Society Essay Level High school Tags: Serial Killer Essay Did you like this example? Aileen Carol Wuornos was a seriously disturbed woman that would become the first female serial killer in the United States. When you look at her life and study it, you can see just why this happened. Aileen really never had a chance at a normal life. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Aileen Wuornos" essay for you Create order It is almost like the world was always against her. Mental illness combined with an awful childhood was what raised a serial killer. Aileen, herself, knew that she would never make it in this world. I robbed them, and I killed them as cold as ice, and I would do it again, and I know I would kill another person because Ive hated humans for a long time. (MLA) Aileen Carol Wuornos Pralle was born in Rochester, Michigan on February 29, 1956. Her birth parents were Diane Wuornos and Leo Pittman. Aileens mother abandoned her and her brother Keith when she was only 4 years old. Aileens father, Leo was in jail for child molestating and later hanged himself in prison. He also suffered with schizophrenia throughout his life. Aileen never met her father because her parents divorced before she was born. Her maternal grandparents, Lauri and Britta Pittman adopted Aileen and Keith. Lauri, Aileens grandfather sexually assaulted her many times. As a young child with little supervision and parental love, Aileen played with fire and burned herself causing scars on her face. At the age of 10, Aileen began experimenting sexually with her brother. When Aileen was 11, she learned that she could trade sexual acts for food and cigarettes. At the age of 14, Aileen was raped by her grandfathers friend. A pregnancy resulted from this rape. She quit school w hen she gave birth to her son and he was immediately put up for adoption. At this point and only 15 years old, her grandfather kicked her out of his home and Aileen took to living in the woods. She became a prostitute to make what money that she could and to be able to survive. In 1976 at the age of 20, Aileen hitchhiked to Florida. It was here that she met and married a much older man named Lewis Fell. This relationship was tumultuous from the start. Lewis had to obtain a restraining order on Aileen. They were divorced 9 weeks later. On July 17, 1976, it is important to note that the one person that she cared for died. Her brother Keith passed away from cancer. Over the next several years, Aileen spent a lot of time in and out of jail for robbery, car theft, and passing forged checks. In 1986, Aileen met the love of her life Tyria Moore in a bar. Both Aileen and Tyria moved frequently, staying at hotels for as long as they could with the money Aileen made prostituting and event ually murdering men. Eventually, after Aileen was wanted and Tyria had put the pieces together she moved to Pittsburgh to live with her sister. Tyria also became the informant for the police to avoid prosecution. During Aileens time in jail a woman named Arlene Pralle became connected to Aileen. Mrs. Pralle and her husband legally adopted Aileen on November 21, 1991 with the hope of helping her. After years of appeals and on death row, Aileen Wuornos succumbed to her fate and was put to death by lethal injection in the Florida State Prison in Starke, Florida on October 9, 2002. At Aileen Wuornoss trial, the state psychologist testified that she had Borderline Personality Disorder and Antisocial Personality Disorder. Borderline personality disorder is a mental illness/disorder that causes unstable moods, behaviors, and relationships. Aileen fit this assessment as she displayed anger towards others often and even tried to commit suicide 6 times in her life. Antisocial personality disorder (ASPD), also called sociopathy is a mental health disorder that is characterized by disregard for other people. (Mayo Clinic, )(MLA format) Aileen never thought about other people in the moment. Some additional experts stated that she had impaired capacity and mental disturbance during the crimes she committed. Aileen additionally has a low IQ noted since childhood. She did not receive any psychological treatment and received six death sentences. In 1989-1990 there were 7 dead bodies discovered in Florida. The common link being that they all had been shot. The first victim was found in 1989. The body was that of 51 year old Richard Mallory. He was found a couple of miles away from his car. The cause of death was determined to be multiple shots to his chest. The second victim was 43 year old David Spears who was found on June 1, 1990. He had been shot six times in the torso. The third victim was 40 year old Charles Carskaddon. He was found a few days after the body of David Spears was found in Pasco County. The fourth victim, 50 year old Troy Burress was found on August 4, 1990 in Marion County. His body was fairly decomposed and was found to have two shots to the torso. The fifth victim was 56 year old Charles Dick Humphreys who was found in Marion County on September 12, 1990. He had multiple shots to his head and torso. His car was found later in Suwannee County. The sixth victim was 65 year old Peter Siems. It was not ed that Siems was on his way to New Jersey from Florida in June of 1990. His body was never recovered, but the car was found in Orange County on July 4, 1990 after Aileen and Tyria crashed it. The seventh and final victim was 62 year old Walter Antonio. He was found on November 19, 1990 in Dixie County. He was shot four times in the back and head. His car was found 5 days later in Brevard County. Aileen had already been in jail a few times for robbery, car theft and passing forged checks before she starting committing murders. She already had many run ins with the police and had a record. When Aileen killed Peter Sims she and Tyria stole his car and ended up crashing it. The women tried to get rid of all the evidence. Despite their best efforts they were tracked down by the fingerprints and palm prints that were left in the car. When Aileen was captured her behavior was as defiant as usual and some describe it as bizarre. Aileen claims that she killed all 7 victims in self-defense and had a substantial story made up for each one. Aileen Wuornos was charged by a jury for six of the seven murders on January 13, 1992. The deliberation took just 2 hours. The jury found her guilty on all counts of first degree murder and armed robbery. Aileens anger could be felt when she yelled, Sons of Bitches! I was raped! I hope you get raped. Scumbags of America! (MLA Format) Each murder charge carried with it a death sentence. Aileen spent the next 10 years on a stay of execution while trying to get a retrial. During this time it was found that Richard Mallory was a known rapist. He had served 10 years in prison previously for rape. It is important to note that the story Aileen told about Richard raping her could have been true. Arlene Pralle who adopted her defended Aileens self-defense plea in this murder. Nurture had a larger impact on Aileens life then nature did, although Aileens environment had a factor in making her into who she was destined to be. There is no doubt that she had a bad childhood. She never really had unconditional love from her parents. No one in her life ever taught her right from wrong without physical punishment. She never understood what love meant or was because no one ever loved her in the sense of the word. People always took from her and she rarely ever received much. All the people that should have cared about her from the start never protected her. All Aileen Wuornos ever really wanted in life was someone to love and to love her in return. She spent her whole life searching for this. Even though Aileen Wuornos committed horrible crimes, she almost deserves some compassion because she really did not stand a chance in this world. And Im really sorry about everything Ive done. I miss TyI lost Tyria over this, and the people that lost their loved ones an d everything, I really think first about the people that lose their loved ones and then Tyria second. I have to put them first on this whole thing. Im really sorry for, you know, them losing their loved ones man. I know the feeling. (MLA)

Free Will In The Great Divorce Essay Example For Students

Free Will In The Great Divorce Essay C. S. Lewis’s message concerning free will is that God helps the one’s willing to convert and that each person that is saved must take the first step towards his salvation by wanting all sin out of his life. He believes each person is presented with a choice that will determine their salvation. This choice is whether or not they want to continue living in sin or if they want to live for God. They must give their permission for their sin to be destroyed, for it can only be done from their will, † I can’t kill it against your will. It is impossible. Have I your permission? †(99). By giving one’s permission the process of salvation will begin. Although it may be hard or even painful they must choose to rid themselves of their sin to obtain everlasting life. It is very tough to give your permission to rid something that you have lived forever with, but that is the choice one must make. For example, A man wanted his lizard, which represents his sin, to be quiet, but when he learned that it would entail killing it he became scared and quickly changed his mind because he was afraid it would hurt. After a while he gave his permission, but it took a while because it was hard to overcome his fear. At one point he suggested he could keep his sin in order and that † the gradual process would be far better than killing it. †(98) because he was fearful of living without his sin. This same fear can cause other men not to give their permission to let their sin destroyed. Lewis also believes many men, when given the choice, will choose eternal damnation over God because of something they value more than Him. Many will choose a sin they feel that they cannot live without rather than sit next to His ide in heaven. They would rather go to hell and keep whatever it is they value so much than lose it, † He’d fight to the death to keep it. He’d like well to be able to scratch: but even when he can scratch no more he’d rather itch than not. †(70). It is his will that he would have some remembrance or longing for the sin he once clanged to than have eternal peace with God. Others will fill a hole in their heart that should belong to God with a loved one or some other physical thing. For example, one woman cared not for God, but only for her son who died arlier and she failed to realize that she will not truly love her son until she realizes God is who she should love the most and he is her son’s true loved one. By doing this she, and others that do this, put the thing they love so much over God, and in the end choose it over God, † The choice of every lost soul can be expressed in the words ‘ Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven. ’ There is always something they insist on keeping, even at the price of misery. There is always something they prefer to joy-that is, to reality. Ye see its easily enough n a spoiled child that would sooner miss its play and its supper than say it was sorry and be friends. †(69). They would rather â€Å"reign in hell† by keeping that thing that fills the void in their soul instead of filling it with what is supposed to go there: God. Others however realized the choice they must make and choose God and eternal happiness. Those that understand to get salvation they must have their sins destroyed make it their will to be done and God makes it happen. They truly want to be happy and realize for this to happen they must rid themselves of all vil, † It is only the little germ of a desire for God that we need to start the process.
